Daily costs by style
| Style | Per person, per day | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Budget to mid-range | About USD 250 – 300 | Shared or private road safari, comfortable lodges or tented camps, pop-top safari vehicle. |
| Luxury | About USD 400 – 600 | Smaller camps, private vehicle and guide, better locations, more inclusions. |
| Ultra-luxury | USD 600 – 1,200+ | Private conservancy camps, fly-in transfers, exclusive game drives and walks. |
These ranges are based on 2026 operator pricing for travelers sharing a room. Solo travelers usually pay a single supplement.
Park and conservancy fees
Park fees are a large part of the price, and they're often already built into a safari quote. In the Maasai Mara National Reserve, 2026 rates for non-resident adults are USD 100 per day from January to June and USD 200 per day from July to December. Children 9 to 17 pay USD 50. Private conservancies charge their own fees, which are usually included in the camp rate.
Other costs to budget for
- International flights: often USD 1,000 – 1,800 round trip from the US East Coast to Nairobi in economy.
- Bush flights: small planes between parks save hours of driving. Expect roughly USD 200 – 400 per leg.
- Kenya eTA: USD 30 per person. See our Kenya eTA guide.
- Tips: guides commonly receive around USD 10 – 20 per person per day, plus a camp staff tip box.
- Extras: balloon safaris, village visits, drinks at some lodges, travel insurance.
How to save
- Travel in shoulder months like January, February, early June or November.
- Drive between nearby parks instead of flying.
- Mix a couple of splurge nights with simpler lodges.
- Get two or three quotes for the same itinerary. Our safari planning resources page lists specialists and tour marketplaces to compare.

How much is a 7-day safari in Kenya?
A typical 7-day mid-range Kenya safari costs roughly USD 1,750 – 2,100 per person, before international flights. Luxury trips of the same length often run USD 2,800 – 4,200 or more.
Is a Kenya safari cheaper than Tanzania?
Often, yes. Kenya's roads and shorter distances keep driving safaris affordable, and park fees in the Mara are lower in the first half of the year.
Are park fees included in safari packages?
Usually. Most operators include park and conservancy fees in their quotes, but always check the inclusions list.
